When you register at Westcroft Health Centre you are registered with the practice, however, there will be a named GP on your medical records who will deal with any correspondence, results and requests for prescriptions. We would highly recommend that you see your Named GP to help maintain continuity of care and you will be offered contact with them preferentially in the first instance. You are, however, free to consult with any GP or practice nurse.
On 1st August Westcroft Health Centre changed the appointments system. We have initiated a new team called the Urgent Assessment Team
- If a patient needs an urgent on-the-day appointment they will be asked by reception staff to give a brief description of the problem and book you an appointment.
- The new Urgent Assessment Team will then triage your problem and allocate you an appointment with the appropriate clinician.
We hope that this will alleviate the waiting time for appointments and also use the clinician’s time more appropriately.

Availability of appointments is always a problem in General Practice. With a growing population coupled with staff shortages across General Practice as a whole, we have to endeavour to provide the best service we can to our patients, with the limited resources we have.
This is the reason why we are revolutionising the way we handle our appointment system. Changing it in order to better meet the needs of our practice population.
Appointments are often wasted due to people not turning up. We have partially addressed this in the past few months by sending out reminder SMS messages the day before the appointment and by also introducing an SMS number for patients to text if they cannot make their appointment. Unfortunately an unacceptable number of appointments are still being missed.
We encourage all our patients to please inform us in a timely manner if they need to cancel their appointment Text your name, date of birth and details of the appointment you wish to cancel to our dedicated text cancellation line 07704 745619 so that it can be made available to someone in need of an appointment.
Patients also sometimes feel frustrated that they cannot get through to reception at busy times. During peak times, our lines are fully manned by not just the reception team, but also the administration team. By altering the times you can call, this will help take the strain off the telephone lines at busy periods.

By introducing the new appointments system, we aim to reduce missed or wasted appointments, while also enhancing accessibility for those requiring an appointment, whether it be urgent or routine. We hope this will improve our accessibility for appointments.

Check In On Arrival
Please use the self-check-in screen, on your left as you enter the premises, this will save queuing at the reception desk and immediately indicates that you have arrived for your appointment.
Late arrival for appointment
If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment you will NOT be seen by the GP or nurse you will be asked to rebook your appointment. Late arrival for appointments over the day can result in surgeries running late and cause inconvenience to others.
